Here are just some of the fun
books you can read along with
in Tumblebooks

What are TumbleBooks? The TumbleBook Library is a collection of animated, talking picture books and puzzles which you can access from your home computer or at the library. TumbleBooks are created from existing picture books which have been licensed from children's book publishers and converted to the TumbleBook format. Kids (and parents) can read along with the story as the book is displayed on the computer screen. TumbleBooks are a great way to get kids interested in and entertained with reading!

How do I access TumbleBooks? Click on any of the TumbleBook Library icon links. You can explore the site and check out all the books, games and features.
  • The index page lists all the TumbleBooks and TumbleGames. Click on the hyperlink and it will take you right to that TumbleBook.
  • You can view a TumbleBook by clicking on the ‘View Online” button.
  • Scroll through the collection in any of the sections:
    • Story Books - entertaining and amusing picture books you can listen to or read on your own.
    • Tumble Readables - large print 'Read-On-Your-Own' story, chapter and YA books
  • Life Learning - books which teach kids about important social and health issues, in a fun, educational manner.
  • Language Learning - a growing collection of French and Spanish books
  • Reading Levels: Each title has recommended reading levels for both automatic and manual modes. Click on the reading level to see other books at the same level.

Once you have familiarized yourself with the collection however, the fastest and easiest way to get to your favorite books is by adding your favorites to the My Favorites section. Add and delete the titles you want easy access to.

How do I read the books?  TumbleBooks are designed to be experienced in either automatic or manual mode.  In automatic mode, the pages turn by themselves and are narrated; in manual mode, the narration is turned off and children turn the pages at their own speed.

The Pause Button: You can use the pause button to stop the story at any time in order to practice story prediction, interpret pictures, discuss new vocabulary words, empathize with a character, discuss possible consequences of actions, encourage problem solving, or provide historical, geographical, or other perspectives.
TumblePad Word Helper : This new feature allows you to click on a book to hear a sentence repeated, or click on a vocabulary word in order to hear it sounded out. (not available in all stories)

What are the puzzles and games? The TumblePuzzles and TumbleGames are jig-saw puzzles and memory games which are great educational games to play after reading a book.

Note: Flash Plug-In required - TumbleBooks and TumbleQuizzes are created in Flash animation and require the Flash plug-in to view and hear the animation. The great majority of computers and operating systems are already preloaded with Flash. If you are unable to view the books you can download the Flash plug-in for free at www.macromedia.com
